Church of Coucieiro | Coucieiro
The Church of Coucieiro was sacred in the time of D. Afonso Henriques, more specifically in 1164, by the archbishop of Braga, D. Paio Mendes. Its exterior is essentially Romanesque with the usual arcs involving the main portal and botanical ornaments on the capitals, but its interior was substantially changed in the reconstruction in 1888 (date on the façade) to the style and taste of that time. Dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, the church belonged to the Knights Templar and later to the Order of Christ.
