This bridge is a medieval construction with a modern reconstruction and ensures the passage over the river Cávado, connecting Vila Verde and Braga. The current architectural aspect dates from the 17th century, when it was reconstructed. It was originally constructed in the Middle Ages. There is evidence that it already existed in the time of the Romans integrating the route that linked Bracara Augusta to Astúrica Augusta.
